Transit of Retro Mercury - From February 26 - March 21, 2026

Retrograde Mercury

Retro Mercury - it is the apparent backward (reverse) motion of a planet from our perspective or viewpoint on Earth. As we know, planets don't actually move backward, but the theory of astrology is based on what we can see in the sky from Earth, and as we look at the sky over the next few weeks, Mercury will appear to move backward. It may have stopped in its tracks and then it turns back or loops, taking it back through a part of the zodiac.

For a layman's understanding, the keywords or concepts related to the planet retro are things like - revise, redo, review, reactivate, but all words that indicate some kind of iteration or going back to something that makes you think about what you could or need to do again or what you might need to revisit, It may have been unfinished business in some way, but thought it was done, though then realized something was missing, so going back to it all is definitely job of the retro planet.

The energy activated by Mercury's retrograde motion - Starts on February 26, 2026 and will continue until March 21, 2026. Mercury begins its retrograde motion at 28 degrees 21 Minutes in Aquarius and Starts to move in direct motion at 14 degrees 15 Minutes in same Rashi Aquarius.

So, this means that this Mercury retrograde is greatly affecting signs (Aquarius due to its placement, Gemini, Virgo, due to lordship and Leo due to its aspect from Aquarius Sign). And it will also greatly affect those natives whose Maha dasha-Antar dasha – Pratyantar dasha lords are making any sort of connection with the Mercury shall be potentially impacted (no matter good or bad). Point to note that this time Mars, Sun, Rahu & Venus also positioned in Aquarius Rashi, therefore, any sort of relationship with Mercury of above mentioned planets with dasha period will get impacted.

Further to add that everyone dreads due to Mercury retrograde, and it gets a lot of publicity. However, this transit is not bad for everyone. But this particular retrograde transit has a unique and complex astronomical situation that needs to be carefully understood—because Mercury is transiting through Aquarius (which is 11th house of kaal Purush, house of gains & lordship of Saturn, the Dand Nayak).

In Vedic astrology, Aquarius is an air sign, which is free flowing (like the watery element, but with different intent), as some suggest. It is stable, airy, structured, introverted, and driven by deep mental concentration. It is ruled by Saturn, and this time Rahu is placed in Aquarius, so in a way, Rahu is also the ruler of Aquarius (शनि वत राहु). This combination gives Aquarius the quality of deep karmic pressure—a sign grappling with old debts, old habits, and old obligations that need to be resolved.

When Mercury retrogrades in Aquarius, it actually moves away from the Sun, (and thus becomes stronger due to the retrograde motion itself, as the planet is closer to Earth and moves faster. Therefore, Mercury is not weak or obscured here. This retrograde motion is especially intense because Mercury is closely associated with Mars and Rahu in Aquarius, which can create a distorted or high-pressure environment. Therefore, It is strong, but erratic—like a powerful machine running in reverse.

Mercury is the planet of communication, language, writing, and conversation. It is also associated with short trips and travel, logistics, trade, markets, and deals and contracts, as well as technology (technological tools we use, such as the internet, fall under this category).

It's really common to hear about how all of these areas/factors of life can be affected or become a little unstable and not function as they should when Mercury is retrograde, and sometimes they do – we have  had examples of this in the past under various Mercury retrogrades, such as Instagram going down or major disruptions to travel and transportation. (I am going through a Mercury major period, so I have definitely had some experiences while traveling where one thing after another went wrong during Mercury retrograde.)

I am sure you all have encountered the common problems like delays, such as flight taking off behind the schedule, either you are getting stuck at the departure gate or your luggage missing etc., or some exciting experiences due to Mercury moving retrograde. But while you might not have understood it, now you certainly smiled when you learned today that such events are caused by Mercury's retrograde motion. But another thing to keep in mind is that Mercury actually retrogrades frequently, three or four times a year, for about twenty to twenty-four days.

Therefore, its a good to avoid important activities; correspondence and communication, travel, or any important work (related to Mercury's signification) during Mercury's retrograde transit. If you're planning to do any of these things, you can plan for a later time when Mercury is transiting normally.

It is also not a good time to sign any important documents or any kind of paperwork during Mercury retrograde and hence one thing we need to keep in mind with Mercury retrograde is to be practical and aware. You should definitely read any document two or three times before signing it, meaning you have to double-check all routine tasks two or three times, but it is like an orange light at a crossroads telling you to be careful, not to go at all (red light/danger) so this is how you can define Mercury retrograde.

Retrograde planet becomes stationary at one place for some time, that is, it neither moves forward nor backward, it becomes stationary at one place. This stationary state occurs when the planet starts moving from normal to retrograde state, or transits from retrograde to direct motion. Mercury stops/stays stationary at one place for some time or 24 to 48 hours before becoming retrograde.

The stationary positions of any planet can actually be the most problematic times (this principle applies to all planets that travel retrograde), so at the beginning and end of the retrograde phase Mercury is actually standing on the water like a dead boat in the sea. Now the power is there but there is no speed, no velocity and this is the most difficult time and one has to be very careful during this entire period and should think carefully before starting any new work and signing any document until one regains normal speed/starts moving forward.

Mercury retrogrades at 28 degrees 21 minutes, Aquarius and Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra. Whose lordship is with Jupiter and deity is Aja Ekapada (One-footed goat/serpent), a form of Rudra. It is associated with transformation, intensity, and occult knowledge. Natives are often sincere, disciplined reformers, but may also be prone to impulsiveness or deep, secretive behaviors.

This nakshatra is associated with great scientists, philosophically reflective individuals, and transformative insights. There is a blazing and penetrating quality here. When Mercury retrogrades in this nakshatra, the mind is prompted to delve deeper rather than broadly, to delve deeper rather than to draw conclusions. This is not a good period for superficial thinking, but it can be extremely useful for research, self-reflection, and finding answers to deeper questions you've avoided.

The suggestions below will help you figure out how significant Mercury retrograde could be for you personally.

- If Mercury is shubh in your birth chart, meaning you have Mercury in Gemini or Virgo, or the ascendant, then Mercury is going to be really influential for you.

- If Mercury is extremely important in your chart (meaning it is retrograde and especially the lord of the ascendant or the Moon sign), you may be more sensitive to Mercury retrograde than most others.

From February 26 till March 03, 2026 will travel through third pad of Purva Bhadrapada, ruled by Gemini Navamsh, expresses nakshatra energy and Gemini effects through communication, making mental and curious phase, so it is felt that one may experience tech glitches, misinformation, and the need to revisit past decisions, purchases, or communication, these issues are purely depend on the strength of Mercury (may be or may not be retro), if it is weak or afflicted then native may experience such problems badly.

Mercury, from February 26th to March 3rd, 2026 will transit through the third charan of Poorva Bhadrapada Nakshatra and the Gemini Navamsh, ruled by Mercury itself. This Nakshatra expresses the energy and influences of Gemini through communication, creating a mental and inquisitive state. Therefore, one may encounter technical glitches, misinformation, and the need to reconsider past decisions, purchases, or communications. These problems depend entirely on the strength of Mercury. (Mercury may or may not be retrograde in your horoscope). If Mercury is weak or afflicted, the native may face such problems severely.

Mercury, from March 03 to March 07, 2026 will transit through the second charan of Poorva Bhadrapada Nakshatra and the Taurus Navamsh, whose lordship is with Venus, this period is related to sensual indulgence and material desires. During this period, the native may be re-evaluating their desires for material comforts, luxuries, or sensual experiences. This position can make the native more energetic and increase the tendency to reveal the dark side of their nature.

It is important to maintain balance and avoid excessive, impulsive indulgence. This is a time to revisit purchases, contracts, or decisions made before retro period. Also, expect potential glitches in communication, technology, and internet systems. Purva Bhadrapada is represented by a two-faced person and a funeral cot. This suggests one may need to deal with someone whose true intentions are not clear, or native may be managing two things at once.

Mercury, from March 07 to March 10, 2026 will transit through the first charan of Poorva Bhadrapada Nakshatra and the Aries Navamsh, whose lordship is with Mars, the intellectual, communicative energy of Mercury becomes highly driven, impulsive, and sometimes volatile. Jupiter (nakshatra & Debilitation lord) and the Sun (Pran shakti) already placed in Aries Navamsh will also influence retrograde Mercury. This brings purification, but can feel like a fire-storm of, intense mental, transformation or a radical purge.

Mercury, from March 10 to March 14, 2026 will transit through the fourth charan of Shatbhisha Nakshatra and the Pisces (debilitated) Navamsh, whose lordship is with Jupiter. Can be prone to mood swings or excessive emotional sensitivity. This period signifies a time for reviewing profound, unconventional ideas and reconsidering past healing, spiritual, or occult matters. Re-evaluation of communications, technology, and esoteric knowledge and intuitive thinking to Rahu's domain. Retro Mercury triggers a need to re-evaluate plans, communication, contracts, and electronic devices. Old, hidden information may come to light. The combination (of Rahu, Jupiter, Mercury & Aquarius) often prompts a rethinking of how one uses knowledge (intellectual/spiritual) to heal oneself or others. This is an ideal time to research complex, perhaps esoteric, subjects, focusing on compassion rather than mere logic.

Mercury, from March 14 to March 21, 2026 will transit through the third charan of Shatbhisha Nakshatra and the Aquarius (Vargottam) Navamsh, whose lordship is with Saturn. During this period, Rahu is already placed in the Aquarius Navamsh, so due to its position in Rashi and ownership of the nakshatra, Rahu's influence will be strong. This will make your thoughts colorful and rebellious. Both planets are in retrograde motion, so refrain from signing binding agreements or making hasty, radical changes in your life. Use this period to correct past mistakes. This intensifies intellectual analysis, mental restructuring, and unconventional thinking. This Vargottam energy fosters Saturn-inspired innovation, creating a need for in-depth research, innovative communication, and reviewing past decisions in relation to long-term goals. Communication during this transit requires patience and the will to look at long-term goals from a new, perhaps more neutral, perspective.

Please Note - During the period of February 28 to March 13, 2026, Mercury will be both Retrograde (Vakri) and Combust (Ast – too close to the Sun, losing its own strength) while transiting in Aquarius .... this period represents a time for intense reflection, reviewing past decisions, and correcting mistakes rather than initiating new, major ventures. Because this event occurring in Aquarius—the sign governs technology, networks, AI, and innovation—this phase is known to bring significant and rapid changes in market trends, misinformation, and technical issues.

Remedial Measure suggested -

Engage in meditation, yoga, or, spiritual, practices to manage, high-intensity, energy, and clear mental clutter. The placement of Mercury and Rahu in Shatbhisha Nakshatra, a health-promoting nakshatra, can help us explore new avenues for our health and gain new insights. However, this may not be the best time to make important decisions or have conversations
