Tithi
o
Shukla Paksha Dwadashi – This is the twelfth day
of the waxing phase of the Moon.
o
It is a highly auspicious day, primarily
dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Savita (a form of the Sun God).
o
According to astrology, it is known as
'Yash-prada' (bestower of fame or renown) and is considered extremely
fortunate.
o
Dwadashi holds great significance as it is the
day devotees break their rigorous Ekadashi fast; traditionally, this fast is
broken only after sunrise.
o
In the Hindu calendar, only one Dwadashi is
primarily observed during the Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha – Pandava Nirjala Dwadashi
(technically a Maha-Dwadashi): This is the Dwadashi Tithi that falls
immediately after the famous Nirjala Ekadashi. Devotees break their strict
waterless fast by performing special prayers to Lord Trivikrama and donating food
items to Brahmin.
o
According to the Narad Puran, the principal
mantra to be chanted during the fast observed on the twelfth day of the bright
fortnight of the Jyeshtha month is 'Namastrivikramaya', as Lord Vishnu is
worshipped in the Trivikrama form on this day.
o
108 offerings of kheer (sweet rice pudding) are
made to the sacred fire, followed by the Abhishek (ceremonial bath) of Lord
Vishnu in His Trivikram form using a large quantity of milk (four seers),
accompanied by the continuous chanting of the prescribed Mool Mantra for the
day.
o
Donating twenty measures of grain and Dakshina
(ritual offering/fee) while chanting the donation mantra:
Deva Deva Jagannath Prasida Parmeshwar,
Upayanam Cha Samagra Mamabhishtha Prado Bhava/
o
Dwadash names are the twelve highly revered
names of Lord Vishnu which are traditionally chanted during daily rituals like
achaman (purification) and while applying the sacred tilak.
In this sequence, the name Trivikrama
prominently occupies the seventh position.
ii.
Narayan – The
ultimate refuge of all living beings and the One who dwells in everything.
iii.
Madhav – The Lord of knowledge and the eternal
consort of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
iv.
Govind – The
protector of cows, the Earth, and speech.
v.
Vishnu – The all-pervading protector of the
universe.
vi.
Madhusudan –
The destroyer of the demon Madhu and the inner impurities of the mind.
vii.
Trivikrama – The conqueror of the three worlds,
who measured the entire universe in three strides.
viii.
Vaman – The
dwarf incarnation who taught King Mahabali a lesson in humility.
ix.
Shridhar – The one who bears Shri (Goddess
Lakshmi) upon His chest.
x.
Hrishikesh – The
master and controller of all physical senses and the mind.
xi.
Padmanabh – The one from whose navel emerges a
lotus, upon which resides Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe.
xii.
Damodar – He
whom Mother Yashoda bound around the waist with a rope; He who can be attained
only through true love.
o
Worshipping Lord Vishnu, reciting the Vishnu
Sahasranama, and offering prayers with sincere devotion on this day removes
obstacles and brings divine grace.
o
Performing the Shri Satyanarayan Puja on this
auspicious occasion is especially beneficial; it fosters happiness, prosperity,
wealth, good health, harmony in family life, and spiritual growth.
o
May Lord Vishnu shower His boundless grace upon
you on this holy day.
Points to note –
o
A Tithi represents the daily phase of the Moon;
it reflects the mood of the times and the rhythm of the mind.
o
Additionally, Hindu Tithis are categorized based
on the Panchabhuta (the five elements). Among these, the Dwadashi Tithi is
considered auspicious and falls under the category of 'Bhadr Tithi'.
o
Despite this, why is it that tasks often fail to
reach completion on time on this day? It is frequently observed that a task is
nearly finished, yet a final step remains pending.
o
Promises of payment are made, but the actual
receipt often comes only after repeated reminders.
o
Similarly, a relationship may be stable, yet
"formal discussions" or final decisions take time.
o
Or, someone plans a trip, only for sudden
changes to occur regarding tickets or hotel arrangements.
o
This is where the Tithi (lunar day) comes into
play.
o
The Dwadashi Tithi provides "carrying
power"—it sustains and brings matters to completion, while simultaneously
testing one's sense of attachment and responsibility.
o
The formula above helps us understand why some
people excel at fulfilling responsibilities, completing lengthy tasks, and
keeping promises, while also explaining why they might feel mentally burdened
or trapped in a cycle of "pending" tasks.
Remedies to overcome such
obstacles:
i.
Observe a fast on the Dwadashi Tithi (once a
month). If you are unable to fast, consume Sattvic food—keep the meal simple,
avoid heavy or oily dishes, and maintain a calm state of mind.
ii.
This helps stabilize the Moon through the rhythm
of the practice.
iii.
Dwadashi is a nourishing Tithi, and Lord Vishnu
is the Preserver deity; therefore, chant 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya' or
simply 'Om Namo Narayanaya', or recite 12 names from the Vishnu Sahasranam.
Vaar
o
The ruling planet of Friday is Venus.
o
It is considered the best time to attain
material wealth, love, and beauty, and to make a fresh start.
o
The waxing Moon (Shukla Paksha) symbolizes
expansion, positivity, and growth. Friday is ruled by Venus, the significator
of luxury, romance, and prosperity. The combination of these two forces
exponentially amplifies the energy of attraction and the fulfillment of
desires.
o
This day is excellent for purchasing high-value
items (such as gold or property), opening new business accounts, or making
investments.
o
It is also a very auspicious day to perform the
worship of Goddess Mahalakshmi or Goddess Durga to seek blessings of prosperity
and good fortune.
o
Observing a fast on Fridays during the Shukla
Paksha (the bright fortnight of the lunar month) is a popular Hindu tradition
dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi—specifically in her form known as Vaibhav Lakshmi—with
the aim of alleviating financial hardships.
Nakshatra
o
Vishakha Nakshatra – This symbolizes unwavering
resolve, ambition, and the pursuit of ultimate goals. It is ruled by the mighty
planet Jupiter.
o
Vishakha Nakshatra is governed by two deities –
Indra (King of the Gods) and Agni (the Fire God). This dual influence combines
immense power, leadership, and political ambition with an intense inner energy
(Tapas), driving the individual towards constant transformation and spiritual
growth.
o
This Nakshatra spans the signs of Libra (ruled
by Venus, the symbol of beauty and balance) and Scorpio. Due to the transition
from Libra—associated with the air element and diplomacy—to Scorpio—associated
with the water element and intensity—there is a constant tug-of-war between the
desire for material success and the quest for profound spiritual truths.
o
Body parts associated with the Vishakha
Nakshatra – lower abdomen, urinary bladder, kidneys, pancreas, genitals,
rectum, prostate gland, and descending colon.
o
Ailments associated with the Vishakha Nakshatra
include uterine disorders, nosebleeds, kidney stones, dropsy (fluid retention),
hernias, prostate enlargement, fibroids, tumors, abnormal menstrual bleeding,
and urinary issues.
o
Individuals born under the Vishakha Nakshatra
excel in roles requiring foresight, strategy, and perseverance. They are
well-suited for careers in law, politics, corporate leadership, finance, and
entrepreneurship. They dislike repetitive tasks and require clear goals
(milestones) for advancement.
o
The fourth Charan of Vishakha falls under the
sign of Scorpio, which is considered the Moon's sign of debilitation (a
weakened state). This can give rise to deep emotional intensity, inner
conflicts, and a constant struggle between worldly ambitions and emotional
needs.
Yog
o
Siddha Yog – This is an auspicious Yog. It
fosters success, efficiency, and achievements. It is suitable for completing
stalled tasks and attaining goals.
o
Siddha Yog is governed by Lord Ganesha and Lord
Shiva. It symbolizes the fulfillment, completion, and smooth execution of
tasks.
o
Siddha Yog instills a sense of purity and
sincerity of purpose in an individual. Others will appreciate the good deeds
performed by the person for their community, family, and friends. Siddha Yog
grants the capacity to acquire knowledge and brings prosperity to the
individual.
o
The convergence of Venus (Friday), Jupiter
(Vishakha Nakshatra), and Lord Vishnu (Dwadashi Tithi) creates a powerful
energy that fosters wealth accumulation. Engaging in business expansion,
financial investments, and luxury ventures during this alignment yields
long-term financial gains.
Karan
o
Balav Karan – Although we discussed Balav Karan
in detail in a previous post, we will attempt to provide some additional
information about it here.
o
Balav Karan is a highly auspicious Karan that
fosters spirituality in an individual. It is ruled by Brahma—or, in other
words, the Brahmin—and embodies an understanding of the auspicious rituals and
sacraments associated with Brahmins.
o
This is an excellent time to begin Yajna (fire
worship), the study of the Vedas, acts of charity, medical treatment, and
pilgrimages.
o
This Karan is associated with the Moon; therefore, the
qualities of the Moon are reflected in the individual's nature. Women born
under this influence achieve success and hold a respected position in society.
o
Ultimately, 'Balav' symbolizes that innocent purity of
the soul seeking the Ultimate Truth—a purity akin to that of a child. It is
deeply connected to the quest for Brahmavidya (divine knowledge).
o
If it is in an inauspicious state, it yields negative
results.
o
The Balav Karan is ruled by the Moon and
symbolized by the tiger. From an astrological perspective, this animal energy
is fierce, intense, and domineering. Initiating activities such as weddings,
housewarming ceremonies, or new partnerships during this time can lead to
aggressive or unsettling situations.
Remedies for inauspicious
effects:
o
Worship Lord Brahma or Goddess Saraswati
o
Help the needy with their education
o
Read spiritual books
