Today's Panchang

20 June 2026

v Tithi – Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha Shashti, until 10:17 (IST), followed by Saptami.

v Day – Saturday

v Nakshatra – Magha, until 09:25 (IST), followed by Purva Phalguni nakshatra for the rest of the day.

v Yog – Vajra, until 12:48 (IST), followed by Siddhi Yog.

v Karan – Taitil, until 16:59 (IST); followed by GAR Karan.

v Today, the Moon is transiting through the Leo zodiac sign...

v Today, the Sun is transiting through the Gemini zodiac sign and the Scorpio Navamsh sign throughout the day.

Tithi

v Shukl Paksh Shashthi – This is the sixth day of the waxing phase of the Moon. In Vedic astrology and the Hindu calendar, Shukla Paksha Shashti holds great auspicious significance. When this day falls on a Saturday, it creates a highly spiritual and practical alignment. Astrological traditions consider this a powerful time to embark on courageous endeavours, connect with the community, and make disciplined new beginnings.

v The waxing phase of the Moon signifies growth, expansion, and progress. According to astrology, endeavours initiated during this period are aided in moving forward and achieving success.

v The convergence of the waxing Moon (a symbol of growth and prosperity) and Saturday (ruled by Lord Shani, the symbol of discipline and patience) is favourable for specific astrological and spiritual purposes.

v It is associated with the Nanda Tithi, signifying a connection to happiness, prosperity, and auspicious beginnings. Its presiding deity is Goddess Vajreshwari (or Lord Kartikeya). Vajreshwari grants the power to manifest dreams—akin to the materialization of energy—and possesses the quality of being Yash-Prada (bestower of fame or renown).

v When the Shashti Tithi falls on a Saturday, the influence of Saturn combines with the valour of Kartikeya. This makes the day highly auspicious for long-term planning, making calculated career moves, and maintaining the discipline required to achieve one's goals.

v To mitigate major difficulties arising from the adverse effects of Saturn, Mars, and Ketu in one's birth chart, it is considered auspicious to perform worship, light a lamp, and recite the Kartikeya Stotra or the Skanda Puran. Consequently, the influence of Saturn combines with the valour of Kartikeya. This makes the day highly auspicious for long-term planning, making calculated career moves, and maintaining the discipline required to achieve one's goals.

v In my experience, engaging in social service activities brings relief to those undergoing the challenging phases of 'Sade Sati' or 'Kantak Shani,' while also generating the kind of energy that leads to fame and recognition.

v The Shashti Tithi is considered an active and stabilizing lunar phase. Therefore, it is deemed highly auspicious for laying foundations, purchasing property, commencing construction, designing or wearing new clothes, learning arts, and engaging in activities related to diplomacy or sports. However, due to the influence of Saturn, most people avoid initiating these activities (especially on Saturdays)—except in cases of emergency.

Vaar

v Saturday – This day is dedicated to Lord Shani and is considered a day for karma, discipline, and spiritual contemplation. People often observe a fast or perform special prayers on this day to seek protection and mitigate the adverse effects associated with Shani.

v From an astrological perspective, Saturday is ruled by Saturn, the deity of justice, hard work, and the fruits of one's actions. Its nature is grounded, deliberate, and stern (or intense), requiring discipline, deep contemplation, and an evaluation of one's deeds. It also embodies 'stable' (unwavering, robust, and enduring) energy, making it favourable for tasks that demand patience, long-term construction, or breaking bad habits.

Nakshatra

v Magha – The ruling planet of this Nakshatra is Ketu, and Magha is characterized by an 'Ugra' (fierce/violent) nature. Its presiding deities are the Pitris (ancestral spirits or divine ancestors). This implies that Magha is deeply connected to an individual's lineage, heritage, and the blessings of past generations.

v According to Muhurt Chintamani, the qualities of Nakshatra become even more potent when they coincide with specific days (Vedic weekdays, which begin at sunrise). Therefore, the conjunction of Magha Nakshatra with Saturday renders this combination highly 'fierce' (Ugra), intensifying its harsh nature and latent attributes. For this reason, this combination is considered extremely powerful for undertaking intense, destructive, or forceful activities.

v Like Ashlesha, this is one of the six 'Ganda Moola' Nakshatras, implying a profound karmic influence. According to Vedic astrology, special rituals are required at the time of birth to balance its intense energy and ensure a smooth life path.

v If a person is born under any of the six specific Nakshatras ruled by Ketu and Mercury—Magha being one of them—they are considered to be affected by 'Gand Mool Dosh'.

v Yesterday, we discussed the Ashlesha Nakshatra in detail; however, there is an interesting point that distinguishes the qualities of Ashlesha and Magha Nakshatras (both of which fall under Gand Mool), and it is important to share this with all of you.

v Mercury is the ruling planet of the Ashlesha Nakshatra; since Mercury is inherently an intellectual planet, Ashlesha is also considered a highly intellectual Nakshatra. On the other hand, Ketu rules the Magha Nakshatra; Ketu is inherently deeply spiritual, and since true wisdom stems from the supreme source of spirituality, Magha is also regarded as a highly intelligent Nakshatra. While Ashlesha possesses its own unique beauty, Magha is considered the supreme Nakshatra due to its nature of 'letting go'—or its quality of detachment. Ketu-ruled Magha finds joy in a state of detachment, whereas Mercury-ruled Ashlesha tends to cling to things, holding on tight and refusing to let go.

v For those who missed my post yesterday—according to Chapters 92–94 of the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Sage Parashar has prescribed remedies to mitigate the adverse effects of birth under Gandant or Ganda Moola Nakshatra (which occurs when a child is born at the precise junction of fire and water signs). These remedies specifically include a purificatory bath, the donation of gold, and the performance of Hom (a fire ritual).

v Adhomukhi Drishti - Downward-facing gaze – On a symbolic level, much like Ashlesha, Magha also has a downward gaze; similar influences can be observed in people born under the Magha Nakshatra.

v This includes destructive acts such as sabotage, poisoning, arson, and confronting enemies. These malevolent actions can be associated with deception or conflict. However, this quality can also be harnessed for positive purposes; the Magha Nakshatra is beneficial for defeating enemies, setting fires, engaging in acts of sabotage, or even breaking bad habits.

Yog

v Today’s Yog is 'Vajra' – it is suitable for disciplined activities. Its nature is mixed; therefore, one may experience both positive and negative effects. It enhances mental strength but can also make a person rather stern in temperament. The convergence of Vajra Yoga, Magha Nakshatra, and Saturday generates intense karmic energy.

v This combines the sudden shifts associated with Vajra with the spiritual depth of Ketu (lord of the Magha Nakshatra) and the stabilizing influence of Saturn. While this alignment is favourable for introspection, settling past karmic debts, and disciplined spiritual practices, it is entirely unsuitable for initiating new auspicious undertakings.

Karan

v Taitil Karan – This has been discussed in detail in our previous Panchang articles. Please read them and follow the 'dos and don'ts' associated with Taitil Karan.

Q - What if a planet is Retrograde and debilitated, but positioned in Pushkar Navamsh....

Q - What if a planet is Retrograde and debilitated, but positioned in Pushkar Navamsh....

This question has been asked by a friend of mine

who is a student of astrology like me.

This question has been divided into three parts as follows

What is Pushkar Navamsh

Pushkar Navamsh= Push – To Boost & Kar – Karma – means to do something extra ordinary through your karma, It is a concept used to identify the strength of a planet in the Rashi chart to navamsh.

Navamsh is the most important Varg. There are specific areas in charts that nourish and give planets the capacity to fortify themselves. This special Navamsh allow the personality to flourish and its qualities become replenished. Planet positions in their Navamsh finally decide whether they are strong or weak in the chart., therefore that promises abundance, luck, and good fortune when it’s being activated during dasha period.

And this Pushkar Navamsh planet gives

a righteous direction of your life.

Q - What if Pushkar Navamsh Planet is debilitated in D1 Chart

A debilitated planet in Pushkar Navamsh (D9) generally suggests the planet is weak by sign placement but, due to the highly auspicious Pushkar segment, and above all, that planet has achieved a benefic placement (either in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius or Pisces Navamsh - known as SHUBH NAVAMSH) , therefore, it can still deliver positive results, often through healing, resilience, or a later improvement in life. While debilitated in Rashi (D1), the planet's Pushkar navamsh helps neutralize the negative impact, often acting as a form of cancellation of debility effects of that particular planet.

Q. - What if same planet is Retrograde and debilitated, but positioned in Pushkar Navamsh....

 ·       When a planet is both debilitated  and retrograde in the Rashi chart while positioned in a Pushkar Navamsh (auspicious division) often behaves as a high-functioning but certainly not like an exalted planet.

·       As stated above, Debilitation of a planet is lack of direction for significations of that planet, thus confusion and lack of focus.

·      Retrograde motion in astrology often seems unpredictable, but it's actually a signal from the universe urging you to review, correct, and refine your actions. Karmic lessons take time to learn, and when understood, they are mastered. Because these lessons are tied to karma (the results of our past actions), they don't become understood overnight. Now combining the two. Debilitation and Retrograde planet would massively increase the significations of that planet but with great delay.

·       As we know that exaltation never gives delay. So, the planet debilitated and Retrograde acts like exalted but with such delays that nobody likes it. Exalted planet gives happiness, (except Venus), but debilitated and retro planet gives peace.

 ·       This configuration typically reverses the negativity of debilitation, suggesting high status, success, and exceptional achievements, although the journey may involve intense mental, emotional, or physical effort.

·       As the weakness of a planet is flipped into a source of immense hidden energy. It often indicates that the native will experience significant struggles early on, but will eventually rise to a high position or achieve great success in the areas governed by that planet.

·       Pertinent to mention that retrograde planets are closer to Earth, they act strongly on the conscious mind, which can cause internal friction, obsessive thinking, or unconventional approaches to the planet’s matters.

·       If the planet is also severely combust or affected by intense malefic aspect, the positive effects may be diminished, though some relief is still provided by the Pushkar Navamsh.

Further to add that -

·       Generally Retrograde malefic planet (natural/functional) becomes more powerful. Retrograde planets often make mistakes and, while going back to its normal / forward motion, try to rectify them.

·       A weak retrograde planet means that the person desires excessively for the things related to the lordship/position of that planet, while he makes many mistakes and faces setbacks/ failures, as well as being in a low position.

·       If the planet is well placed/supported/ placed in a beneficial sign, especially in the Navamsh, the person eventually learns from his mistake/corrects it and gets good results at the end of the Dasha.

·       If in a bad condition/house/navamsh/placement/aspects etc, person is not able to learn/improve and wanders mindlessly during the dasha of that planet.

·       If a planet is afflicted or in a bad position due to whatever reason (house/ navamsh/ aspect etc.,) then in that case native is unable to learn/improve and wanders aimlessly during the dasha of that planet.

·       Debilitation refers to sthanbal - refers to a planet's position in a zodiac sign where it is considered weak or challenged, where its energy is least effective.

Retrograde refers to chestabal. This state of a planet is often associated with revisiting the past issues, therefore, reflecting previous actions (to be fulfilled in this birth) and thus making adjustments to move forward more effectively.

·       A planet being debilitated and retrograde at the same time is a complex and delicate situation; it requires a thorough analysis of that particular planet in the horoscope. When analyzed prudently and patiently, applying the principles of Vedic astrology, such a planet can truly prove to be a miraculous remedy for personal growth and transformation.

·       Finally, this can be defined in one liner definition...

Debilitated + retrograde = learning the hard way, but learning it right

Example

Case Study of Amitabh Bachchan chart

·        Venus Debilitated & combust too, in D1 chart, however, it has attained Pushkar Navamsh

  • However, Venus has acquired Pushkar Navamsh, and its lord Mercury (Retrograde) is also placed with it, so due to the presence of Venus in Pushkar Navamsh, both these positions reduce the weakness of Venus (its combust and debilitating effects) and help one achieve extraordinary success in arts, luxury and public image.
  • Although Venus is not typically retrograde in this context, however, its dispositor is Retro, the position of Pushkar Navamsh itself is often cited as a major factor in his continued fame despite his weak D1 position (its position in the combust and eighth house).
  • Its worth noting that his horoscope presents three poverty-related yog: Nirbhagya (the lord of the ninth house in a Trik house), Duryog (the lord of the tenth house in a Trik house), and Daridr Yog (the lord of the eleventh house in a Trik house). This Pushkar Navamsh placement also nullifies all poverty yog.
  • In his horoscope, Jupiter (rules the second and eleventh houses) is exalted in the sixth house, and this is also the case in the Pushkar Navamsh, but Jupiter is not retrograde. This Jupiter (along with the Moon, lord of the sixth house) is involved in two very strong yog related to wealth – Gaj Kesari Yog and Amal Kirti Yog. These yog also indirectly support Venus...
Point to Note  -
  • Amitabh Bachchan has Aquarius lagan - Venus, apart from combust, debilitated & in Pushkar Navamsh, it is Yog Karak & Badhak planet too - Very complex state

Disclaimer -The above write up is just my personal thoughts, please do not compare with other learned writers, results may vary person to person basis placement, strength and aspect of debilitated, retrograde, navamsh positions of Benefic and Malefic planets of your Lagan and other factors in an individual horoscope.

Effects of Badhak Planet & Badhak Sthan

Effects of Badhak Planet & Badhak Sthan

This is just an English translation of my earlier article on Badhak Planet and Badhak Sthan.

Badhak planet is a planet that is considered to bring obstacles, misfortune, or disaster to a person's life and work. They are often inauspicious in a horoscope and hinder a person's progress. Badhak planet can affect the body, mind, wealth, family, children, marital happiness, etc. This planet constantly creates obstacles to a person's progress and achievements.

Prashan Marg, Sarvarth Chintamani, Jatak Parijat and almost all classical texts of Jyotish emphasize on identifying the Badhak Sthan & Badhak planet while analyzing the horoscope..

·       Jatak Parijat, Volume 1, Chapter 2, Verse 48, states that

i.                 The eleventh house is considered Badhak Sthan for movable signs.

ii.                The ninth house is considered Badhak Sthan for all fixed signs.

iii.              The seventh house is considered Badhak Sthan for all dual signs.

Which planet will be harmful /Badhak according to your ascendant (zodiac sign)?

·       Saturn is the Badhak planet for Aries and Taurus.

·       Jupiter is the Badhak planet for Gemini and Virgo.

·       Venus is the Badhak planet for Cancer and Aquarius.

·       The Moon is the Badhak planet for Scorpio.

·       The Sun is the Badhak planet for Libra.

·       Mercury is the Badhak planet for Sagittarius and Pisces.

·       Mars is the Badhak planet for Leo and Capricorn.

The position of the Badhkesh or planets in the Badhak Sthan (obstructed position) can help us predict the consequences of our past karmas (curses) and the troubles we may face in life. The following are detailed below:

• Anger of the gods

• Anger of the serpent gods

• Anger of parents

• Influence of ghosts

• Blindness

• Black magic/witchcraft

Reasons for the increased inauspiciousness due to Badhak planet:

·       The Badhak planet is placed in an enemy sign.

·       It is conjunct with Rahu or Ketu.

·       If it is situated in a Trik Bhav (6th, 8th or 12th house), the effect of obstruction is long-term.

·       If the Badhak planet is conjunct or aspected by a malefic planet/sixth lord/eighth lord, then there is a possibility of misfortune.

·       Aspect of Saturn and Rahu.

·       The obstructing planet is in a Navamsh:

Is either

Debilitated

Or

Under the influence of Paap Drishti (malefic aspect)

Or

Fulfilling Both conditions, then effect will be more severe....

·       The Badhak planet is in its Maha dasha/Antar dasha, If it is conjunct with malefic planets like Khar planet (22nd Dreshkan/64th Navamsh lord), Gulik/Mandi, and Mrityu bhag, it can be more worrying.

The following psychological problems can arise due to the influence of Badhak Planet:

·       Inability to make decisions

·       Self-doubt

·       Excessive thinking

·       Internal conflict

·       Fear of failure

·       This is called obstruction in the scriptures.

·       In the Shlok 30 of Chapter 18, volume 3 of the Jatak Parijat, which is Dasha Phal Adhyay, Acharya Vaidyanath expounds on the destructive effects of the Badhak Sthan (house of obstruction) and its lord, the Badhkesh states: Diseases, sufferings, etc. occur during the period of the planet ruling the Badhak Bhav and the planet associated to it. Sorrow arises during their Maha dasha or Antar or Pratyantar dasha periods of the planet situated in Badhak Sthan.

·       The Badhkesh, along with any planet in the Badhak Sthan, can cause obstruction during its operating period.

·       The 11th house, a house of gains, becomes a Badhak for Movable signs because desires are infinite, causing obstacles.

·       For Fixed signs, their rigidity (9th) becomes the obstacle.

·       While for Dual signs, partnerships (7th) become a problem.

·       If the Badhakadhipati/obstructive planet is placed in the fifth house of the horoscope, it indicates obstacles, delays, or challenges in the native's life in matters related to education, creativity, and especially progeny.

·       When the Lagan lord and Badhakadhipati (the planet causing obstacles in life) are placed in the same house in the horoscope, it creates a mixed and complex situation. This can often be called a success with struggle yog in life.

·       According to my experience, we should find out the Badhak Sthan & Badhkesh for each Bhava/Rashi in the horoscope. This will help us understand the hidden causes of obstacles in that particular Bhav.

·       For all fixed signs, the ninth Bhav is their Badhkesh place, and the ninth lord itself becomes Badhkesh. - It is said that if the ninth lord itself becomes Badhkesh, then the person has neglected the deity worshipped in the previous birth.

·       If Badhkesh is in the second or eleventh house—the houses of wealth and income, respectively—it indicates that the deity's property has either been stolen or misused. The nature of the property can be inferred from the nature of the sign. This property can be either metal (inanimate object), material (grain, tree, land, etc.), or living (human, animal, etc.), depending on whether the ascendant is movable, fixed, or dual.

However, the sign's nature changes when planets are combined with the ascendant.

• Mercury and Jupiter represent the living entity,

• Sun and Venus represent the original entity, and

• Moon, Mars, Saturn, and Rahu represent the metal entity.

• This can also be inferred from the position of Badhkesh in various constellations. The order of the nakshatra calculated from Ashwini is metal, original entity, and living entity.

What if Badhkesh is Combust Planet

·       When Badhkesh is combust, its ability to cause harm or obstruction externally is significantly reduced, often bringing relief in that specific area of life. However, the combust state acts as a double-edged sword, causing obstructive energy to turn inward, often leading to hidden, internal, or karmic challenges.

·       Even though external obstacles may be reduced, problems may arise in the form of psychological, internal or health-related events.

·       If the Sun itself is exalted or in a good position in the horoscope, then the combust Badhkesh may not have as much negative impact as is anticipated, as Badhkesh loses its power to give its full, negative or obstructive results.

·       If Venus or the lord of the seventh house is Badhkesh and is combust, it may lead to discontent or hidden dissatisfaction rather than open conflict in marital life.

·       If Badhkesh is associated with the tenth or eleventh house, the combust Badhkesh may not completely block career growth, but may cause confusion regarding career goals or lack of confidence in the professional field.

Transit Effect of Badhak Planet

• It has been observed that most astrologers do not thoroughly analyze transits. Not taking planetary transits seriously is a crucial point that directly impacts the accuracy of astrological predictions.

• It is important to note that planetary transits are the trigger mechanism that transforms the potential and conditions contained in the birth chart into actual, direct experiences.

• Without proper analysis of the transit, the prediction is only a general possibility, not a specific event that will occur at a specific time.

• If we do not consider the obstructing position and the position of the obstructing planet in the transit system, then our analysis is incomplete.

• The auspicious or inauspicious effect of the transit of an obstructing planet depends on the house in which it is placed and the lord of which house it is placed with.

• When the obstructing planet transits through inauspicious houses (especially the sixth and eighth houses), it has the most negative impact on the life of the native.

Effects of the Badhak Planet's Dasha, Antar dasha, and Transit –

Taking my horoscope as an example, I am trying to understand the effects of Badhak Planet in daily life.

·       My Ascendant Rashi is Pisces, so my Badhak planet will be Mercury which is placed in the 9th house in Scorpio along with the Sun (6th lord), and Mercury is also completely combust. But I don't experience negative emotions, nor do I feel depressed or upset. Rather, I am more interested in research and always try to know the reason behind things and reach the root of whatever I study. However, both the Sun and Mercury are placed in Pushkar Navamsh and Anuradha Nakshatra. This can be the reason of nullifying effect of Badhak.

·       But during my Mercury-Rahu-Rahu Dasha ( From October 29, 2025 to March 9, 2026), Mercury, which was also aspected by the Sun in transit, posed challenges to my health, especially when the transits of the other five planets (the Sun, Mars, Mercury, Venus and Rahu) were also passing through the 12th house, where natal Jupiter, the ascendant lord of the D1 chart, is placed.

·       This transit of Badhkesh, along with Rahu (Antar and Pratyantar Dasha Nath), and Sun (6th lord), Venus (8th lord) Mars (which is an inherently malefic planet) gives rise to sudden health problems and my health condition worsened further because on March 01, 2026, Badhkesh and combust Mercury (also in transit) was transiting in retrograde motion in the 12th house (house of hospitalization) along with four extremely malefic planets of my chart.

·       On 20th March 2026, Mercury started moving in normal motion again and at the same time Venus and the Sun (lords of the 8th and 6th houses) transited, from Aquarius and 12th house, to Lagna and Pisces, which improved my health.

·       It has been observed that the transit of Rahu (lord of the antar and pratyantar dasha) and Mercury (maha dasha lord & Badhkesh) through the 12th house causes health problems, as Rahu behaves like Mercury due to its nature. Certain combinations are more difficult, but generally the more malefic planets are associated with the Badhkesh, the more severe the problems.

·       When I deeply studied the five series Dasha sequence of Maha-Antar-Pratyantar - Pran and Sukshm Dasha (all five), I get confirmation of the cause of my health problems.

·       My Jupiter's Pratyantar Dasha started from March 18, 2026 and will continue till July 20, 2026.

·       When Mercury, Rahu, and Jupiter all three come together during the Dasha period, they create a powerful, extremely auspicious Yog.

·       This conjunction of the planet of intellect (Mercury), the planet of curiosity, innovation and the ability to think beyond conventional boundaries (Rahu) and the planet of wisdom (Jupiter) usually results in a significant increase in knowledge, spiritual growth and professional success, even if they are in inauspicious positions.

·       I have been trying to write this article on the effects of Badhkesh on daily life for several days, however, my thoughts (Mercury factor) were not being expressed the way I wanted.

·       Upon investigation, it was found that Mercury was being afflicted by its debilitated sign, along with other malefic planets like Mars (energy), Saturn (planet of delay).

·       But today (March 30, 2026 at 7 am) when Mercury entered Aries where Mercury met the exalted Sun and both are in Pushkar Navamsh (in the birth chart), I was able to complete my long-awaited and never-before-touched-in-detail task on Badhak.

Summary

·       A Badhak planet can become more severe when aspected by or placed in conjunction with negative planets. Its negative impact can be felt throughout life.

·       If Badhak planet is not in any way connected to inauspicious planets, then obstructive planet is not particularly inauspicious.

·       It is essential to study Badhak planet for each house/sign, but keep in mind that when Badhak planets, both from the ascendant and for a particular sign are together and their malefic influence is strong, it can create a big problem.

·       If retrograde planets are also negatively affected, Badhak planets under the severe influence of Trik lord / lords, can indicate a trap for life.

·       If Badhak planet is aspected by benefic planet/s and involved in a good Rajyog, it can also prove to be a boon.

·       Badhkesh increases hard work during its Dasha-Antar dasha and causes sudden obstacles in work.

·       If Badhkesh is located in the 12th house (expenditure place) of the horoscope, it is considered auspicious because it expends (eliminates) obstacles.

·       If the Badhkesh is a Yog karak planet (Saturn, being the lord of the 9th and 10th house for Taurus (for fix ascendant, 9th house is Badhak Sthan & its lord becomes Badhak), it can give great success in career or fortune despite obstacles.

If the Badhkesh planet is in its exalted sign, own sign, Vargottam or Pushkar Navamsh, or  aspected/conjunct by an auspicious planet, it can remove obstacles and give good results
