Amavasya is the 30th date of measurement of time in the Indian calendar system. The day when the illuminated part of the Moon is not visible from the earth is known as Amavasya or Amavas.
... 'Surya Chandramsoh Yah Parh Sannikarsh Sa Amavasya...' ... According to Gobhil, this is the definition of Amavasya.)
ama – darkness, ari-ama – aryama – sun, vas – to be, to be with. It is said in the Vedas that Shakti comes down on earth on the day of Amavasya.
ЁЯк╖ Significance of Margashirsha Amavasya ЁЯк╖
Margashirsha, also known as Agrahayana or Aghayana, is a revered month in the Hindu calendar, it is a day to honor ancestors through rituals such as Pitru Puja, Til Tarpan and Pind Daan. It is believed that these practices help release the spirits of one's ancestors.
ЁЯк╖ From astrological point of view - Margashirsha Amavasya is related to Saturn. It is said that performing rituals to please Shani on this day reduces the effects of negative planets and brings good fortune.
ЁЯк╖ According to some astrologers, it is mentioned in Rigveda, ...
In the above hymn of Rigveda, Swarbhanu (Rahu), the one who swallows the Sun, was first known by Sage Atri.
On this basis, Sage Atri explained the solar eclipse theoretically on the basis of astrology.
It would be appropriate to say that Rishi Atri Amavasya Were aware of it.
Amavasya can be of three types:
ЁЯк╖ 1. The date when the Moon is not visible from sunrise to sunset is called Siniwali Amavasya.
(In Rigveda, there is mention of a deity named Siniwali, he is worshiped for having children. In Atharvaveda, Amavasya also known as Siniwali.)
ЁЯк╖ 2. Again, if the Moon is not visible between sunrise and sunset and Chaturdashi ends on that date and Amavasya begins on the 30th, then that Amavasya is called 'Darsh'.
ЁЯк╖ 3. And if in that Amavasya itself, the thirtieth day of that lunar month and the first date of the next lunar month also comes, then such Amavasya is known as 'Kuhu'.
Aryama is the name of Sun who is the presiding deity of the ancestral world.
Therefore the etymology of Amavasya is proved in this way.
Hence, Amavasya is considered as a respectable goddess of Atharva Vedic sages. It has been said by the sages to provide strength, confirmation and prosperity to the Vasus -рдЖрдЧрдЬाрдд्рд░ी рд╕ंрдЧрдордиी рд╡рд╕ूрдиाрдкूрд░्рдЬ рдкुрд╖्рдЯ рд╡рд╕्рд╡ाрд╡ेрд╢рдпрди्рддी । - Aagajatri Sangamani Vasunapurja Pushta Vasvaveshayanti.
